Do you have photos of your parents with your kids? I mean real ones, not just awkward, posed ones taken at Christmas? Real photos that show the depth of this special connection, that show your kids’ personalities and the way your parents look at them in the quiet moments between the sibling chaos.
Because here’s the thing, we all know how fast our children grow up, (I feel like I’m saying this on repeat at the moment). But the ones who really feel it, who’ve been there before and know that they need to truly savour every moment of laughter and fun with them, are our parents. They’ve seen us through teething and tantrums, first days of school and first jobs, marriage and then kids of our own. They know that the old saying ‘the days are long but the years are short’ is heartbreakingly true. Grandchildren are a chance to do it all again just with more time on their hands, and 20/20 hindsight about what they’d do differently this time around. That’s the magic of this special relationship.
This family wanted to celebrate that bond, so on a golden summer’s evening in Mothecombe Gardens we took a walk together as the sun went down, and let the magic unfold.
